Careers at The Reed Corporation

We are a New York City CPA firm with over 40 years of history, offices in NYC, Los Angeles, and Miami, and a client roster that includes models, actors, athletes, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals. We are looking for accountants and CPAs who want to do work that actually matters to the people sitting across the table.

The Short Version

Most accounting firms will tell you they value their people. We would rather show you. Our team members work directly with clients from day one. There is no three-year waiting period before you touch anything interesting. A staff accountant here handles entertainment royalty income, multi-state filings, loan-out corporations, and international reporting in the same week. That is the job.

We are not a factory. We don’t crank out returns on a conveyor belt and move on. Every client has a name, a situation, and a reason they came to us. If that sounds like something you’d want to be part of, keep reading.

What We Actually Do Here

The Reed Corporation operates as a full-service financial office for its clients. That means tax preparation is just one piece. We also handle business management, bookkeeping, advisory, entity structuring, payroll, and the kind of daily financial operations that most firms never touch. Our services page has the full list, but here’s the quick version of what you’d be working on:

Tax preparation and compliance — Individual 1040s, S-corp and partnership returns, multi-state filings, and international reporting (FBARs, FATCA, Form 8938, the whole stack). Many of our clients earn income in four or five states and two or three countries. The returns are not simple, and that’s what makes them worth doing.

Business management — Bill payment, income tracking, receivables, monthly financial reporting, and bank reconciliation. For some clients, we are the entire back office. Their bills get paid because we pay them. Their books are clean because we maintain them.

Advisory and planning — Entity election decisions, estimated tax calculations, compensation structuring for S-corps, and year-end planning conversations that actually change a client’s outcome. Not theoretical advice — things we implement the same week we recommend them.

Where We Work

Our primary office is in Manhattan. We also have presence in Los Angeles and Miami, which makes sense given our client base — entertainment professionals, athletes, and business owners who split time between coasts or live in Florida.

The firm’s mailing and meetings office sits at One World Trade Center, 85th Floor in Lower Manhattan, with our main operations at 350 East 62nd Street on the Upper East Side. The LA and Miami offices serve clients in those markets directly and coordinate with New York on multi-jurisdiction work.

Some roles are in-office, some are hybrid. It depends on the position and the team you’d be joining. We are straightforward about this during the interview process — no bait and switch.

Roles We Typically Hire For

We don’t always have a specific opening posted, but we are always interested in hearing from strong candidates. The positions we fill most frequently include:

  • Staff Accountant — Responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, financial statement prep, and supporting senior team members on tax engagements. A great fit if you have one to three years of experience and want to grow quickly in a hands-on environment.
  • Tax Preparer / Senior Tax Preparer — Preparing and reviewing individual and business returns, communicating with clients about missing documents, and managing filing deadlines across multiple jurisdictions. You should be comfortable with 1040s, 1120-S, 1065, and multi-state apportionment.
  • Tax Manager — Overseeing a portfolio of clients, reviewing returns prepared by staff, handling tax notices and correspondence, and leading planning conversations. CPA required. Five-plus years of experience preferred, but we care more about what you can do than how long you have been doing it.
  • Business Management Associate — Running the financial operations for a set of clients: bill pay, receivables, reporting, and coordination with agents, managers, and attorneys. This role suits people who are organized to a fault and genuinely enjoy the daily rhythm of keeping someone’s financial life running.

We also bring on seasonal preparers during tax season (January through April) and occasionally hire for administrative and operations support roles.

The Clients You Would Work With

This is probably the part that sets us apart from most firms. Our client base includes fashion models who earn income through agencies in New York, Paris, Milan, and Tokyo. Actors with residual income, loan-out corporations, and SAG-AFTRA pension contributions. Athletes with endorsement deals and multi-state filing obligations. Business owners running everything from restaurants to tech startups. High-net-worth individuals with trusts, estates, and investment portfolios that need coordinated planning.

You can see the full breakdown on our Who We Serve page, but the point is this: the work here is not repetitive. You won’t prepare the same W-2-only return 200 times during busy season. Every client brings a different puzzle, and we expect our team to engage with that puzzle rather than just fill in boxes.

What It Is Like Working Here

We are a mid-size firm with a small-firm feel. The partners know everyone’s name. If you have a question, you walk over and ask it — or call, if you are in a different office. There is no rigid hierarchy that keeps junior staff away from senior leadership. That is intentional.

A few things we think matter:

You learn by doing. We pair newer team members with experienced preparers and managers, but we don’t keep you in a training bubble for six months. You’ll be working on real client engagements within your first week. The learning curve is steep. Most people tell us that’s why they stayed.

Busy season is busy. We won’t pretend otherwise. Tax season is long hours and tight deadlines. But we also don’t believe in burning people out. We staff appropriately, we communicate openly about workload, and when the season ends, we make sure people actually take time off.

Growth is real. Several of our current managers and senior staff started as entry-level associates. We promote from within whenever we can because the people who already understand our clients and our systems are the best ones to lead.

Nobody here is going to ask you to “disrupt the accounting space” or “bring your whole self to work.” We are an accounting firm. We prepare returns, manage finances, and advise clients. The work speaks for itself, and so will yours.

Compensation and Benefits

We pay competitively for the New York, LA, and Miami markets. Specific compensation depends on your role, experience, and credentials. Here is what we offer across the board:

  • Competitive base salary benchmarked to market data for your role and city
  • Performance-based bonuses tied to measurable outcomes — not subjective reviews
  • CPA exam support, including study materials and paid exam days
  • Continuing education — we cover CPE credits and encourage professional development
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off, including a genuine post-season reset period
  • Retirement plan with firm contribution

How to Apply

Send your resume to info@reedcorp.tax with the subject line “Careers” and a brief note about what role interests you and why. We don’t need a cover letter — a few sentences are fine. If your background looks like a fit, we will reach out to schedule a conversation.

We review applications on a rolling basis. Even if we don’t have an immediate opening that matches your experience, we keep strong resumes on file and reach out when something comes up. The best hires we have made often started with a speculative email.
